The most authentic Mallorca: markets, craftsmanship and traditions

As autumn arrives and winter draws near, Mallorca reveals a different side of itself. With over 300 days of sunshine each year, the light softens, the island quiets down, and peace takes over the Serra de Tramuntana. Here, in our corner of Port de Sóller, local life becomes one of the island’s greatest gifts: open-air markets, handmade crafts, nature, and seasonal harvests that tell stories of centuries-old traditions.

A walk through Sóller in autumn and winter

The Sóller Valley, the town and its port, all breathe a deep sense of calm during these months. A few restaurants and cafés remain open, inspired by seasonal ingredients for their menus, while the sea breeze accompanies both locals and visitors strolling from place to place. It feels like stepping back into the old Mallorca.

Every Saturday, Sóller’s market fills the main square with fresh produce, flowers and plants, a showcase for the farmers who have worked this land for generations.

Following the island’s slower, more authentic rhythm is a way to truly connect with its essence. That same rhythm is what we aim to share with our guests at Hotel Es Port, a place that keeps the spirit of a Mediterranean estate alive, where simplicity, history and soul come together.

Autumn fairs in Mallorca

Autumn in Sóller comes with its own celebrations. The Mushroom Gastronomic Days take place until November 30th, an opportunity for local restaurants and visitors alike to honour the mushroom season through special menus and a deep connection with nature.

Across the island, other traditional fairs celebrate the season’s bounty: the Fira de la Tardor in Marratxí (a town famous for its pottery), the Honey Fair in Llubí, and the Olive Fair in Caimari.

As December arrives, Mallorca lights up with Christmas spirit, hosting festive markets from north to south. In Sóller, the Fira de la Il·lusió runs from December 4th to 8th, while in Palma, Port Adriano and Puerto Portals, you’ll find the island’s most charming Christmas markets.

Seasonal products and local artisans

Autumn in Mallorca tastes of freshly picked pomegranates, forest mushrooms and the oranges of the Sóller valley, flavours that remind us of where we come from. At Hotel Es Port, we follow the same philosophy: we grow part of what we serve in our own garden and work with local producers and artisans who keep traditional crafts alive.

One of them is Mobles Castanyer, a family-run carpentry workshop with more than 160 years of history in Sóller. They are the hands behind the handmade wooden doors and headboards in our rooms, crafted with noble wood from the island itself.

We also collaborate with Majorcan ceramists and artists who find inspiration in the Mediterranean light, the tones of the Tramuntana, and the simple life of the island’s villages. Like us, they seek to preserve a way of doing things with time, care and respect for what surrounds us.

A Mediterranean escape for 2026

At Hotel Es Port, everything moves at its own pace, the sea in the distance, the trees in the garden, the rhythm of a finca that has been rooted in the Sóller valley for centuries. Every corner holds a piece of history and invites you to slow down and be present.

Our home was once a Majorcan possessió from the 13th century, and that legacy is still alive in its stone walls, its chapel and the old olive press. Today, it remains a place to unwind, to feel part of this island and its calm.

Now, as every year, the hotel takes a short break before reopening its doors. We’ll be waiting for you next season, ready to share the most authentic Mallorca, the one you discover slowly and never forget.

Book your escape and reconnect with the true Mallorca at Hotel Es Port.
